The first thing you learn about the Nokia Lumia 928 comes the moment you pick it up: It is a substantial and solid object. And it's a testament to the way Nokia works with plastic that the Lumia 928 doesn't have the cheap and fragile feel of a phone like the Samsung Galaxy S4. That said, the downside to the Lumia's solid plastic body is a weighty chunkiness that makes it feel a bit, well, heavy at 5.7 ounces (for reference, the Galaxy S4 is 4.59 ounces and the Apple iPhone 5 is 3.95 ounces).
The Lumia's 4.5-inch 1280 x 768-pixel screen is pretty stunning?incredibly bright and glossy with Retina-beating pixel density, although not quite up to the standard of the Galaxy S4. The Windows Phone 8 operating system has the now-familiar bright and animated Live Tiles, with some notable software additions from Nokia when it comes to navigation, mapping, and photography. Nokia's Here Maps, for instance, integrates floor plans within buildings in major metropolitan shopping districts. The camera app also integrates several features found in high-end Android phones, including object erase and animated pictures with sound. The PureView camera itself is pretty impressive, with a Xenon flash that can illuminate an entire room. Pictures are vibrant and beautiful, although the 8.7-megapixel shots tend to fall apart when you zoom in too far.
Conclusion: The Nokia Lumia 928 is the best Windows Phone yet, is a pleasure to use, has a fantastic screen, and is a great deal for the price, but it lacks many of the superlative specs of top-tier Android phones.
