Ex-lacrosse player pleads not guilty before trial (AP)

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ? Jury selection is under way in the trial of a University of Virginia lacrosse player accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, who played on the women's team.

Media outlets report that 24-year-old George Huguely V of Chevy Chase, Md., pleaded not guilty Monday to first-degree murder and other charges. Twelve jurors and three alternates are to be selected from 160 people.

Yeardley Love was found dead in her apartment on May 3, 2010. Police say Huguely told investigators he kicked in Love's bedroom door and then shook her, causing her head to hit a wall several times.

Huguely's attorneys contend the 22-year-old Love, of Cockeysville, Md., died accidentally.
