Legal Round-Up: Apple-Samsung Settlement Talks Fail, Motorola ...

While the jury was off yesterday the CEOs of Apple and Samsung had a planned settlement discussion. As with previous similar talks,?Apple CEO Tim Cook and Samsung Chief Executive Kwon Oh Hyun, this one, too, has failed and?the company leaders have not managed to reach a common ground.

On another front of the legal battle Apple is being accused by Motorola in front of the US International Trade Commission?of infringing seven of its now Google-owned patents. Motorola is willing to settle??these patent matters, but Apple?s unwillingness to work out a license leaves us little choice but to defend ourselves and our engineers? innovations?.

If the ITC rules in favor of Motorola then Apple could be banned from importing iPhones in the U.S. The patents claimed to be infringed upon relate to: 1. ?geographic-temporal significant messaging? (U.S. Patent No. 5,883,580), 2. ?apparatus, method and system for multimedia control and communication? (U.S. Patent No. 5,922,047), 3. ?apparatus and method for handling dispatching messages for various applications of a communication device? (U.S. Patent No. 6,425,002), 4. ?markup language for interactive services and methods thereof? (U.S. Patent No, 6,493,673), 5. ?system for providing continuity between messaging clients and method therefor? (U.S. Patent No. 6,983,370), 6. ?method and apparatus for obtaining and managing wirelessly communicated content? (U.S. Patent No. 7,007,064), and 7. ?system and method for managing content between devices in various domains? (U.S. Patent No. 7,383,983).
