Are Ashton And Demi Legally Married?! The Mystery May Be ...

ashton-kutcher-demi-moore-marriage-legal-according-to-real-estate-documents

Guess Demi Moore is going to have cough up those divorce papers for Ashton Kutcher REAL soon!

After questions arose regarding why the pair have never legally ended their marriage despite it being almost a year since their split and both moving on into separate relationships, sources close to the actor's new girlfriend Mila Kunis SHOCKED with the assertion that the nuptials were never legally solidified, and they had only had a symbolic Kabbalah wedding in 2005!

However, according to a Quitclaim deed on one of their properties filed in March of 2012 in the El Lay County Recorder's Office - which requires marital status descriptions on all California real estate transfers - Demi is regarded to as a "spouse" and Ashton a "married man!"

WELL.

While that confirms that these two are recognized by the state as a married couple, this still doesn't provide an explanation as to what is keeping these from OFFICIALLY calling it quits!

Especially since Ashton's calling Mila his "little wife!"

Someone might want to explain the definition of that word to him again, because something is telling us he may not 100% understand what he's saying here!

LOLz!

We kid, we kid!

But seriously - what do U guys think is going on with these two??

An Introduction To Education Web Hosting | One Way Links Site Blog

People have started treating educational matters seriously with time. With a firm educational background one is better placed to tackle life challenges. More knowledgeable people often come up with sound decisions. Bearing all this in mind, there is a great need for education web hosting.

With the advent of internet technologies, people all over the world became more accustomed to accessing information from the internet. Most telecommunication service providers nowadays provide internet services on simple devices such as mobile phones. Better mobile phones with the capability of allowing one to read books from them are continuously churned out of the production line.

Business entities can these days easily make themselves visible over the internet. With better allocation of online resources this goal is easily achieved. Such a way of looking for an online presence is easy to execute. In the earlier days, owning a website was a preserve of the wealthy organizations. Smaller businesses nowadays find it easier to run and maintain websites. The same is the case for educational institutions.

All these developments can be attributed to specific businesses known as hosts. Hosts buy and maintain giant servers. They carry out their business by leasing bandwidth to organizations that wish to be visible over the internet.

Initially, a host would serve businesses with diverse interests. However, with time, they realized that they can better their services by serving only those entities that pose specific challenges. This reduced the amount of work they needed to do in offering their services. It also eases the work involved in solving customer queries. There was also a platform for exchanging ideas between different clients. All this precipitated the emergence of fully dedicated education web hosting service providers.

Education web hosting firms focus on serving the online needs of educational institutions. They exclusively ensure that material that touches on educational matters is more visible on the internet. These firms advise such institutions on how to make their websites more appealing. They also take deliberate steps, such as search engine optimization, that are intended to attract more visitors to these websites.

This has a number of benefits for both website owners and internet users. The internet has proved to be an invaluable advertising platform. It ranks better than conventional advertising media both in terms of cost and global market reach. If advertisements sponsored by other organizations are placed on a website, the website owner stands to benefit as a result of the advertising revenue.

Organizations that discover their content is appealing may charge a premium on users trying to access some of their content. This increases the revenue of such institutions. In addition to this, organizations that run popular sites are bound to attract advertisers presenting lucrative offers.

Bearing this in mind, any materials that are posted online should be researched on thoroughly. This gives users an incentive to visit educational websites. No effort should thus be spared in trying to get quality content.

Considering all the above information, education web hosting is important. This is a good means of disseminating information. It also boosts the educational value of online content.

If you would like to experience education Web hosting go to www.bluehost.com. You can view our demo and test drive before you sign up with http://www.bluehost.com.

Woman Protects Cat From Husband By, er, Shooting Him | Babble ...

audreymiller 300x265 Woman Protects Cat From Husband By, er, Shooting HimApparently, Audrey Miller (pictured) was arguing with her husband when he threatened to shoot one of her beloved cats with a pellet gun.

Her response? She shot him in the stomach instead.

This all happened in Harris County, Texas. Luckily, the husband is currently in stable condition after surviving the surgery to repair the damage the .40 caliber handgun did to him.

Now, I don?t condone shooting most of the time. But I also don?t condone threatening pets with violence. After all, they are smaller than we are and trust us to take care of them.

Still, I don?t condone the shooting. Really.

Genetic sleuthing uncovers deadly new virus in Africa

Friday, September 28, 2012

An isolated outbreak of a deadly disease known as acute hemorrhagic fever, which killed two people and left one gravely ill in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the summer of 2009, was probably caused by a novel virus scientists have never seen before.

Described this week in the open-access journal PLoS Pathogens, the new microbe has been named Bas-Congo virus (BASV) after the province in the southwest corner of the Congo where the three people lived.

It was discovered by an international research consortium that included the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of California, Davis (UCD), Global Viral, the Centre International de Recherches M?dicales de Franceville in Gabon, the Institut National de Recherche Biom?dicale, Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Metabiota and others.

"Known viruses, such as Ebola, HIV and influenza, represent just the tip of the microbial iceberg," said Joseph Fair, PhD, a co-author and vice president of Metabiota. "Identifying deadly unknown viruses, such as Bas-Congo virus, gives us a leg up in controlling future outbreaks."

"These are the only three cases known to have occurred, although there could be additional outbreaks from this virus in the future," said Charles Chiu, MD, PhD, an assistant professor of laboratory medicine at UCSF and director of the UCSF-Abbott Viral Diagnostics and Discovery Center, who spearheaded the UCSF effort to identify the virus. Chiu and his team continue to work on new diagnostics to detect the virus so that health officials in Congo and elsewhere can quickly identify it should it emerge again.

One odd characteristic of the Bas-Congo virus, Chiu said, is that while a number of other viruses in Africa also cause deadly outbreaks of acute hemorrhagic fever?Ebola virus, Lassa virus and Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever virus to name a few ?the new virus is unlike any of them.

Genetically it is more closely related to the types of viruses that cause rabies, which are known to infect people with a very different sort of disease?a neurological illness that is uniformly fatal if untreated but may take months to develop.

An antibody test developed in this study was applied to the one patient who survived and to others who had come into contact with him. It suggested that the disease may be spread from person to person but likely originated from some other source, such as an insect or rodent.

The identity of this animal "reservoir" and the precise mode of transmission for the virus remain unclear and are currently being investigated by Metabiota and the central African members of the consortium through the PREDICT Project of USAID's Emerging Pandemic Threats Program.

How the New Virus Emerged

In the summer of 2009, a 15-year old boy in a small rural community called Mangala village suddenly fell ill and developed a bleeding nose, bleeding gums and bloody vomit. He rapidly worsened, dying within three days of the first signs of illness.

A week later, a 13-year old girl who attended the same school and lived in the same neighborhood as the boy came down with a similar, serious illness. She declined just as rapidly and also died within three days. One week after that, the male nurse who cared for this girl began showing the same symptoms, and he was transferred to a hospital in Boma, a nearby port city that sits along the Congo River upstream from Africa's Atlantic coast.

Members of the consortium, who had initiated a project to diagnose unusual cases of severe hemorrhagic fever, obtained blood samples collected from the nurse by the Congolese doctors and sent them to the laboratory of Eric Leroy, PhD, doctor of veterinary medicine at the Centre International de Recherches M?dicales de Franceville in Gabon. There the samples were tested for traces of any known virus, but nothing was found. The Metabiota scientists then solicited the expertise of Chiu at UCSF and Eric Delwart at the Blood Systems Research Institute (BSRI) in San Francisco to aid in the diagnosis.

The researchers ultimately identified a completely new virus as the cause of the mysterious illness through a powerful strategy for identifying novel pathogens known as "deep sequencing," in which millions of DNA sequences are generated from a clinical sample and then pieced together using computer algorithms combined with human analysis.

Distinct Attributes of Bas-Congo

The Bas-Congo virus belongs to a family of viruses known as the rhabdoviruses, a large family of viruses that infect plants, insects and mammals, including humans. The most famous member of this family is the virus that causes rabies. But even among the rhabdoviruses, Bas-Congo is something of an outlier, being very genetically distinct from other members of the family.

What's most unusual about this virus, though, said Chiu, is what it does to people.

No other rhabdoviruses are known to cause the acute, rapid and deadly hemorrhagic fever seen in the three cases in the Congo. Rabies, for instance, can be a deadly disease if untreated, but the course of rabies in humans is nothing like the rapid and deadly onset seen with the Bas-Congo virus. There is some precedent, however, for hemorrhagic disease from rhabdoviruses in the animal kingdom: fish rhabdoviruses are known to cause hemorrhagic septicemia?acute bleeding and death?in affected fish.

The third patient had enormous amounts of BASV in his bloodstream just two days after he fell ill?more than a million copies in every milliliter of blood.

The BASV sequence was also used to design an antibody test for the virus, an effort led by Graham Simmons at the BSRI, another member of the consortium. Antibodies are blood immune proteins produced in response to an infection. The antibody test allowed the researchers to screen both the third patient with acute hemorrhagic fever and other people who had come into contact with the third patient, including the nurse who cared for him in the Boma hospital. High levels of BASV-specific antibodies were found in the third patient, establishing that he indeed had been infected with Bas-Congo virus. The same antibodies were also found in the second nurse, even though he never actually became sick.

"What this suggests is that the disease may be transmissible from person to person?though it's most likely to have originated from some other source," said Nathan Wolfe, PhD, founder and chairman of Global Viral, and a co-author on the paper. "The fact that it belongs to a family of viruses known to infect a wide variety of mammals, insects and other animals means that it may perpetually exist in insect or other 'host' species and was accidentally passed to humans through insect bites or some other means."

New method monitors semiconductor etching as it happens -- with light

ScienceDaily (Sep. 28, 2012) ? University of Illinois researchers have a new low-cost method to carve delicate features onto semiconductor wafers using light -- and watch as it happens.

"You can use light to image the topography and you can use light to sculpture the topography," said electrical and computer engineering professor Gabriel Popescu. "It could change the future of semiconductor etching."

Chip makers and semiconductor researchers need to very precisely control the dimensions of their devices. The dimensions of the components affect performance, speed, error rate and time to failure.

Semiconductors are commonly shaped by etching with chemicals. Etching errors, such as residual layers, can affect the ability to further process and etch as well as hamper device performance. Thus, researchers use time-consuming and costly processes to ensure precise etching -- for some applications, to within a scant few nanometers.

The Illinois researchers' new technique can monitor a semiconductor's surface as it is etched, in real time, with nanometer resolution. It uses a special type of microscope that uses two beams of light to very precisely measure topography.

"The idea is that the height of the structure can be determined as the light reflects off the different surfaces," said electrical and computer engineering professor Lynford Goddard, who co-led the group with Popescu. "Looking at the change in height, you figure out the etch rate. What this allows us to do is monitor it while it's etching. It allows us to figure out the etch rate both across time and across space, because we can determine the rate at every location within the semiconductor wafer that's in our field of view."

The new method is faster, lower in cost, and less noisy than the widely used methods of atomic force microscopy or scanning tunneling microscopy, which cannot monitor etching in progress but only compare before and after measurements. In addition, the new method is purely optical, so there's no contact with the semiconductor surface and the researchers can monitor the whole wafer at once instead of point-by-point.

"I would say the main advantage of our optical technique is that it requires no contact," Popescu said. "We're just sending light, reflected off the sample, as opposed to an AFM where you need to come with a probe close to the sample."

In addition to monitoring the etching process, the light catalyzes the etching process itself, called photochemical etching. Traditional chemical etching creates features in steps or plateaus. For curved surfaces or other shapes, semiconductor researchers use photochemical etching. Usually, light shines though very expensive glass plates called masks that have distinct patterns of gray to let light through by degrees. A researcher must purchase or make a mask for each tweak of a pattern until the correct pattern of features is achieved.

By contrast, the new method uses a projector to shine a grayscale image onto the sample being etched. This allows the researchers to create complex patterns quickly and easily, and adjust them as needed.

"To create each mask is very expensive. That's impractical for research," Goddard said. "Because our technique is controlled by the computer, it can be dynamic. So you can start off etching one particular shape, midway through realize that you want to make some change, and then change the projector pattern to get the desired outcome."

The researchers envision this technology applied beyond etching, to real-time monitoring of other processes in materials science and life science -- for example, watching carbon nanotubes self-assemble, or error monitoring during large-scale computer chip manufacturing. It could help chip manufacturers reduce costs and processing time by ensuring that equipment stays calibrated.

The National Science Foundation supported this work, published Sept. 28 in the journal Light: Science and Applications. Goddard and Popescu are also affiliated with the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the U. of I.

Graduate students Chris Edwards and Amir Arbabi were also co-authors of the paper.

Non-partisan group posts tweet against Scott Brown

District of Columbia Board of Elections and Ethics Twitter account

The Twitter account for the nonpartisan District of Columbia Board of Elections and Ethics posted a link to an editorial criticizing Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown on Thursday, an act the government agency tells Yahoo News was an accident.

The link directed followers to a piece on the left-leaning Talking Points Memo website headlined "Really, Scott Brown?" that attacks him for bringing up a controversy surrounding the Native American heritage of his challenger, Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren, at a recent debate.

"We would not have put that up there," Board of Elections spokeswoman Karen Raper said when informed of the Twitter post. "I don't know how it got there."

The post was deleted a few minutes after Yahoo News called to inquire about the tweet.

"Somebody must have hacked into our account and posted that," Raper added. "Anybody who had worked here previously who had access to the Twitter account could have posted it or either someone posted it by accident."

The agency has since changed the account's password.

The remark about Brown also appeared for several hours on an automatic feed on the agency's website.

TSX jumps 1 pct on China cash, Spain hopes

TORONTO (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index jumped 1 percent on Thursday, breaking a five-day fall, as investors cheered moves by China to inject cash into money markets and as Spain unveiled an economic reform plan to deal with its debt crisis.

All ten of the index's main sectors moved higher, led by the heavyweight materials, energy and financial sectors which together account for more than three-quarters of the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index <.gsptse>.

By 1:36 p.m. (1736 GMT), the index was up 112.68 points, or 0.92 percent, at 12,345.54, as stronger gold and copper prices boosted miners.

"China is by far the biggest factor in determining commodity prices. Any news perceived as being positive for the Chinese economy tends to help commodity prices and therefore the TSX," said Elvis Picardo, a strategist at Global Securities in Vancouver who has recommended clients buy lagging Canadian commodity stocks for several months.

China's central bank injected 365 billion yuan ($58 billion) into money markets this week to prevent a short-term liquidity crunch at the country's commercial banks.

"This injection by China is consequential," said Gareth Watson, a vice president for investment management and research at Richardson GMP.

The news from China offset data showing weak orders for manufactured goods in the United States, which dimmed the global recovery outlook.

BET ON SPANISH BAILOUT

On Europe, Watson said that investors appeared to be looking beyond street protests against austerity measures in Spain and Greece and assuming that Madrid will eventually request an aid package that would trigger European Central Bank bond-buying.

"The market is looking ahead and finding it very difficult to believe Spain will go ahead without asking for a bailout, so we will react today as if it is already in place," Watson said.

Spain announced a detailed timetable for economic reforms and a tough 2013 budget based mostly on spending cuts seen by many as an effort to pre-empt the likely conditions of an international bailout.

Illustrating the broad nature of the Toronto index's rise, the three gainers with the most impact were a bank, an oil company and a gold miner.

Bank of Nova Scotia rose 1.5 percent to C$54.91, Goldcorp gained 2 percent to C$45.20 and Suncor Energy moved 1.3 percent higher to C$32.44.

But both Watson and Picardo warned that the TSX's rise could simply be a reaction to a five-day sell-off, and that catalysts would be scarce until North American jobless data at the end of next week and corporate earnings season that starts soon after.

Still, a Reuters poll published on Wednesday showed Canadian shares are expected to make further gains this year and into the middle of 2013, as recent stimulus from major central banks is expected to lift lagging resource stocks.

Weighing on the index on Thursday, Enbridge Inc dipped 1 percent to C$38.49 after environmental groups sued the government over the pipeline company's contentious Northern Gateway pipeline.

Research In Motion Ltd dipped 2.9 percent to C$6.68 ahead of its quarterly results due after the close, paring several days of solid gains for the struggling BlackBerry maker.

"Gangnam Style" hit doubles value of Psy's father's stock

SEOUL (Reuters) - A pop star whose song "Gangnam Style" became the first Korean hit to top Apple's music download charts has also worked his magic on his father's software firm, helping it double in value since singer and dancer Psy burst onto the global scene in July.

Psy's father, Park Won-ho, is the chairman and controlling shareholder of South Korean semiconductor company D I Corp and its market capitalization has surged to 113.5 billion won ($101.29 million) on the main Seoul bourse, making it as of Tuesday the 459th most valuable stock measured by size.

Psy's "Gangnam Style", which mocks the rampant consumerism of a rich Seoul suburb, went viral on video-sharing website Youtube. The video has been viewed more than 267 million times on Youtube since it was released in mid-July.

"The positive sentiment from 'Gangnam Style' has attracted investors just because of the fact that the company is owned by Psy's father and uncle," said Lee Sun-tae, a researcher at NH Investment and Securities, who added Psy is not a shareholder in the company.

"The popularity will slowly dissolve in time, naturally."

South Korea's legion of retail investors, mainly middle-aged people, tend to jump on speculative stocks.

Software millionaire Ahn Cheol-soo, who this month announced he would run for the country's presidency, saw the value of his company Ahnlab Inc.'s shares slide after his bid.

Ahnlab stock was down 30 percent on Tuesday compared with its closing level a week ago, just a day before he made his announcement.

Tesla Motors rolling out ultra-fast Supercharger electric car charging stations

The locations can charge Model S vehicles several times faster at no cost to owners

Tesla Motors, the electric car manufacturer started by SpaceX and PayPal co-founder Elon Musk, has unveiled an ambitious plan to place what it calls Supercharger stations across the U.S. for use by owners of its vehicles. Debuting in California this month, the stations are designed to fully charge Tesla's Model S sedan in about an hour, providing them with enough charge in 30 minutes to travel 150 miles.

Six of the stations, which are free to use for Tesla owners as long as they have their vehicles, are planned for California and will be laid out in such a way as to fall within each others' driving radius. That way, Model S owners can simply plan their route around them on long road trips. The long-term plan is to eventually cover the U.S. in the stations. 100 are planned to open by 2015.

The Supercharger connections deliver 90 kilowatts of electricity strait to the Model S battery, bypassing the car's charging system in the process. Tesla says this allows one outlet at the stations to provide nearly four-and-a-half times the current of two standard Model S charging setups. There's no word on how much it's costing Tesla to operate the stations, but we have to imagine the electric bill's going to be out of this world.

Color _ and a little leg _ get noticed at Emmys

Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum ramped up the sizzle Sunday night on the Emmy Awards red carpet that already had TV's biggest stars talking about just how hot they were because of the sweltering temperatures in Los Angeles.

Vergara wore a teal gown by Zuhair Murad with beads all over and a cutout reverse halter neckline, and Klum chose a seafoam-colored gown by Alexandre Vauthier with plunging Vs from every angle on the top and super-high slits that left very little in the middle.

They helped fuel the trend toward bright, bold color that was also worn by pregnant Claire Danes in strapless daffodil-yellow Lanvin, Julianne Moore in a long-sleeve, stretchy gown by Raf Simons for Christian Dior and Nicole Kidman in a blue-on-white-beaded gown by Antonio Berardi. All brought bona fide fashion credibility to the Nokia Theatre, even if they weren't necessarily the favorites.

Hayden Panettiere plucked her sari-style Marchesa straight from the runway, and Ginnifer Goodwin's flame-red-on-sheer-champagne strapless gown by Monique Lhuillier announced there's a new generation of style stars to reckon with.

Goodwin "went out on a limb ? and it could have gone wrong ? but it was great," said Stacy London, co-host of TLC's "What Not to Wear" and co-founder of Style for Hire, a personal fashion service. "It had the biggest impact on me."

Lhuillier had a banner night with Julie Bowen's strapless, trumpet-hem gown and Padma Lakshmi's orange strapless dress.

Goodwin and Klum also were early favorites of Louise Roe, Glamour editor-at-large and "Fashion Star" host. She wasn't crazy about Elisabeth Moss' printed, peplumed Dolce & Gabbana gown, which she said had a little too much "fussy detail."

And, Roe said, Emily VanCamp could have gone edgier than her still-lovely J. Mendel gown with pleats and hints of sexy sheer fabric. "She's young and has a killer body ? she could have played around a bit more."

Hal Rubenstein of InStyle magazine, however, saw the beauty of VanCamp's gown up close and ? like Moore's gown, which was Simons' red-carpet debut for Dior ? needed to be appreciated for the details. "Julianne's will be the one to remember," he said. "It's a lot ? and it's a blazing, flaming color ? but if you saw the dress, the construction was extraordinary."

Moore said before the show: "I love the color. It's so fresh."

It didn't hurt that she also got to wear European-cut diamond earrings, weighing in at 5 carats each, and an 8.5-carat Art Deco bracelet ? both by Fred Leighton.

Vergara's gown was over the top and not as sophisticated as some of her earlier red-carpet looks, but she has mastered a va-va-voom character and she consistently gives the audience what they want, the experts said. "If Sofia Vergara showed up in a tuxedo or a boatneck gown in sable brown, you'd be furious," Rubenstein said.

When stars go for gowns that they seem more comfortable in, which is itself a trend, they look better, Rubenstein explained. Julianna Margulies is someone who always owns her dress and the Giambattista Valli strapless brocade floral fell into her pattern of making fashionable choices.

London felt the same way about Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her dark red, ruched and draped Vera Wang that she paired with Irene Neuwirth's one-of-a kind black opal and rose-cut diamond earrings set with turquoise. "She can show the little girls how to do it. She's nuanced and talented. You never feel like her acting and you always like her, and I feel that way about her dress choices."

There was plenty of red to go with the carpet, including a cleavage-baring Kat Dennings of "2 Broke Girls" in J. Mendel and Tina Fey, who has mastered the awards-show look as she nears the end of the run of "30 Rock," in a dark red strapless with gold bust details by Vivienne Westwood.

It was good to see some unexpected red-carpet players such as Westwood, who also dressed Kerry Washington; Andrew Gn who designed Connie Britton's silver halter; and even Jason Wu on Jessica Pare. Wu designed Michelle Obama's famous inaugural gown but isn't consistent on the red carpet.

One of Mrs. Obama's other favorites, Naeem Khan, scored with a bare, beaded halter gown with orange ballskirt worn by Leslie Mann.

Other impressive Emmys veterans were Amy Poehler, in a beaded, V-neck halter, and Edie Falco, whose navy-in-front, white-in-back gown was made a little sexier with sheer strips on the bodice. "Edie Falco looks 10 years younger from the last time I saw her," London said.

Zooey Deschanel played to her funny-girl, vintage-style, kooky-sexy character in an ice blue strapless gown by Reem Acra that had a poufy full skirt made of tiers of sharply cut tulle layers. She had a manicure with little TV sets on her thumbnails ? perhaps the kind of thing "E!" had in mind for its mani-cam that had stars walking their fingers down a tiny red carpet.

Kiernan Shipka, the young star of "Mad Men" who wore a Zac Posen duchess satin party dress ? sounded like the fashionista she's become when she said, "I love the silhouette." Her co-star January Jones wore a Posen gown that tapped into the runway trend of a complicated harness bodice and Christina Hendricks wore a belted metallic strapless by Christian Siriano.

"Homeland's" Morena Baccarin strapless bodice gown with probably the deepest, sexiest neckline of the night was a bit of a marvel to London. "There is not any give in that dress. I can't understand how she'll sit." It certainly allowed her $58,000 dangling white gold, platinum and diamond drop earrings shine.

London gave credit to Lucy Liu to pulling off a heavy metallic mesh gown by Versace. She made it look fairly effortless, London said.

She did not, however, love Kristen Wiig's "sensible shoes" that went with her Balenciaga lingerie-style lace dress. "You get to wear sensible shoes every other day. This isn't the day."

IKEA removes Pussy Riot-like photo from its Russian site

Saying their website should not be involved with any sort of campaigns, IKEA removed a picture from their Russian site which showed people in colorful ski masks sitting on IKEA furniture.

    By Steve Gutterman,?Reuters / September 23, 2012

Opposition demonstrators wear balaclava masks like those worn by members of the punk band Pussy Riot at a protest rally in Moscow, Saturday, Sept. 15. The furniture store IKEA removed a Pussy Riot-like photo from its Russian website.

Furniture firm?IKEA?has removed a photograph from its Russian website of people in colourful ski masks like those worn by punk band?Pussy Riot, three of whose members were jailed after staging a protest against Vladimir Putin in a church.

The picture, which showed four people in the masks sitting on?IKEA?furniture, had been posted on a section of the site which displays photographs of customers posing at stores.

A notice on the website confirmed the image had been removed and said: "IKEA?is a commercial organisation that conducts its activity outside of politics and religion."

"We cannot allow our advertising project to be used as a platform for campaigning of any kind," it added.

Pussy Riot's?Nadezhda Tolokonnikova,?Maria Alyokhina?and?Yekaterina Samutsevich?were convicted of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred after belting out a song criticising Putin, then prime minister and now president, in?Moscow's Christ the?Saviour Cathedral?in February. They were handed two-year jail terms.

The brightly coloured balaclava masks they wore during the protest have become the band's trademark. A large opposition protest in?Moscow?last weekend featured big balloons with the mask design and the words "Free?Pussy Riot".

The?Russian Orthodox Church?head has called the cathedral protest part of a campaign aimed at curbing the resurgence of?Russia's main faith. Foreign governments, rights groups and musicians have criticised the women's sentences as excessive.

Russia?has dismissed the criticism from abroad, which the?Foreign Ministry?said pointed to a "clash of civilisations". Putin has said the state is obliged to protect the feelings of the faithful.

The photograph, which appeared to have been submitted by a person with the last name Starovoitova in the Ural Mountains city of?Yekaterinburg, had appeared on a competition section of the?IKEA?site where visitors were invited to vote for their favourite shot.

The picture had received 1,431 votes before it was taken down - more than any other posted in the same week.

A representative of?IKEA?in?Russia?confirmed on Sunday the notice had replaced a photograph of people wearing ski masks and declined to comment further immediately, asking for a written request which would be answered on Monday.

IKEA?has invested about 2.5 billion euros ($3.25 billion) in?Russia?since 2000, building stores that anchor malls on the outskirts of big cities. When it posted record profits for the fiscal 2010/11 year in December, the company said some of its biggest sales gains were in?Russia.

In 2009?IKEA?had threatened to halt further expansion in the country, citing corruption and red tape, but last November it said it was looking to at least double its three-store footprint in?Moscow?and refurbish its 14 MEGA malls.

A?Moscow court?is to begin hearing an appeal against the convictions and sentences in the?Pussy Riot?trial on Oct. 1.

Sports: 'The NFL Beat': Week Three

An NFL weekend is descending upon us, but first, I would like to congratulate you. Your fantasy team had a big win last week.

Even though you may have lost, you are still a winner for having learned a lesson. The same way that failed athletes and coddled child-stars-gone-bad are. A big winner.

We can turn that around this week though.

We are now officially knee-deep in the muck. Our route through this 16-week mess will be determined by our squads' outputs against the likes of the MegatRON Swansons and the Hutto Breadmen.

Swindlers and thieves lie in our path, as do ill-informed charlatans posing as advisory counsel. If there is a player in your league with a team called "Show Me Your TDs," he will generally be the source of this bad advice, and bad advice for real-life decisions as well.

This is "The NFL Beat" and this is week three.

    Lions at Titans

Expect a bounce-back game from Lions QB Matt Stafford, the NFC West defenses he has faced are much stiffer than advertised.

Titans RB Chris Johnson is running the ball like he doesn't care about football after getting paid last year and is completely screwing his fantasy owners. Backup RB Javon Ringer has been cleared to play after battling an infection to start the season, and I would not be surprised to see him start to get a heavier workload if Johnson continues at this pace.

Lions WR Calvin Johnson is still Calvin Johnson and he's going to remind his owners why they drafted him in the first round this weekend.

Sleeper Play: Damian Williams, WR Titans: Nate Washington still seems hurt, and I have noticed Williams becoming more involved in the gameplan regardless. He was the second-most targeted Titan in week two and faces the No. 12 matchup for WRs in the Lions.

    49ers at Vikings

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson told reporters that the 49ers hadn't seen a run game like theirs when asked about San Francisco's vaunted run defense, which has only allowed one 100-yard rusher in more than 40 games. Here are my thoughts:

    1) Shut up and don't give your opponents chalkboard material like this, especially awesome ones.
    2) They have faced better run games like the Vikings'.
    3) Peterson has never faced a run defense like San Francisco.

Sleeper Play: I love 49ers WR Michael Crabtree as a flex play this week against the No. 8 WR matchup.

    Jaguars at Colts

I like both running games in this matchup, and have Jacksonville RB Maurice Jones-Drew and Indianapolis RB Donald Brown ranked higher than the FantasyPros Expert Consensus.

Colts WR Reggie Wayne has been a true fantasy success story thus far this season for owners who picked him up in the middle rounds, but I would temper expectations slightly this week. His rapport and connection with QB Andrew Luck could eventually prove matchup-proof, but the Jacksonville secondary is not kind to opposing WRs according to my system.

Sleeper Play: Donnie Avery, WR Colts: He may have been dropped in your league by an owner who saw the news that WR Austin Collie will be coming back. Colts OC Bruce Arians says they have a "diamond" in Donnie Avery and he's the next Mike Wallace. Collie is a concussion away from retirement. Arguably, about two past.

    Rams at Bears

What a horrible display Bears QB Jay Cutler put on last Thursday

. Many who started him last week won't this week, and I wouldn't advise it either. This is a St. Louis secondary who is notorious for getting in people's heads this season, causing both Titus Young and Josh Morgan to draw penalties out of frustration in consecutive weeks. Is Cutler a guy you want "rattled" playing on your fantasy team? He has some upside, but his downside is among the worst in the league because he gives up on games and teammates while under adversity.

    Sleeper Play: Look elsewhere.

    Bills at Browns

Browns rookie QB Brandon Weeden showed up to play last week, but if you had him in your fantasy lineup, you're doing this completely wrong. Don't expect that again, and congratulations on winning the powerball mega-millions later this year with your run of good fortune.

C.J. Spiller is certainly the best running back on the Bills roster, and an argument can be made that he looks like the best on any NFL roster right now. I have Spiller pegged for a Top 5 performance this week while I have fellow Bills RB Fred Jackson pegged for a lot less work when he returns from injury.

Sleeper Play: Mohammed Massaqoui, WR Browns: My RosterWatch co-host, the Trashman, loves MoMass this week for some reason, and he's the king of trashy WR speculation.

    Bucs at Cowboys

This is a new Bucs team that everyone is expecting to revert to their old selves. I'm not so sure they will under new HC Greg Schiano. While this matchup appears good on paper for Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray, I find the Bucs D-line play in weeks one and two to be worrisome to his owners.

I love the Cowboys WRs and TE Jason Witten this week, but I am tempering my expectations for Bucs WR Vincent Jackson after the beastly week-two performance I predicted, as the Cowboys secondary is much improved.

Sleeper Play: Tampa Bay TE Dallas Clark was in on 75% of offensive plays last week while accumulating five targets. The Cowboys represent the fourth-best matchup for opposing TEs according to my system.

    Jets at Dolphins

As predicted, Dolphins RB Reggie Bush was an absolute fantasy monster last week, and I expect that to continue. I will be interested to see how carries will be split moving forward as fellow RB Daniel Thomas returns from whatever injury he is battling this time.

What we do know is that Thomas has looked "OK-to-good" in maybe one game during his career, and that rookie Lamar Miller looks to be the player who is coming on as a future role player and fantasy handcuff to Bush.

Sleeper Play: The Dolphins front seven is improving, and I think that (surprise) the Jets will have a bit of a hard time moving the ball on the ground. I rub my crystal ball and see a deep toss to who I think is Jets rookie WR Stephen Hill that could be a fantasy game-maker. He has been dumped in many leagues after a week-one breakout followed by a week-two stinker.

    Chiefs at Saints

Saints QB Drew Brees will do his best "Matt Ryan week one" impersonation in New Orleans' return to the dome, and burn the Chiefs en route to earning top fantasy QB honors for week three.

Owners of Chiefs RBs Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis are worried for different reasons coming into this game.

While the matchup is the seventh best for RBs, Charles has admitted soreness in his surgically repaired knee and Hillis has been used inconsistently. Owners of both need to keep them on their rosters and hope that in the worst case, you can count on a 7-to-8-point floor from your flex position.

Sleeper Play: Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin has been getting more involved and seems poised to finally do something against the No. 3 matchup for fantasy WRs.

    Bengals at Redskins

There are very few QBs you should be starting in front of Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III at this point.

If you drafted RG3 as a backup, congratulations. Now is the time to move either him or the player you drafted as your starter to upgrade at another starting position. He may go bananas this week in a beautiful matchup at home against the Bengals.

Bengals RB Benjarvus Green-Ellis is looking better than I can ever recall in his entire career, and is facing a defense that let sixth-round rookie Daryl Robinson run roughshod on them in Steven Jackson's absence last Sunday. Get the Law Firm into your lineups.

Sleeper Play: WR Leonard Hankerson of the Redskins has shown sparks in the past and burned Rams rookie Janoris Jenkins on a deep bomb last week. Pierre Garcon appears to be out, so I expect the production to continue.

    Falcons at Chargers

Two teams that present tough matchups basically across the board according to my system, but you have to think that RB Ryan Mathews may do something to help an anemic Chargers run game in his return from what will be looked back on as his "first" injury of 2012.

Chargers TE Antonio Gates has been a full participant in practice, and is always a must-start when he is healthy and Phillip Rivers is throwing the ball. Backup TE Dante Rosario caught what would have been three Gates TDs last week while Gates sat out. His owners were thrilled. Fantasy football is brutal.

Sleeper Play: Jacquizz Rodgers, RB Falcons: Starting RB Michael Turner looks like what I heard someone say on Twitter this week was "a pug trying to roll uphill." That is about right. If Rodgers is available in your league, I would recommend stashing him on the bench if you don't need him this week.

    Eagles at Cardinals

According to my system, the Cardinals are trending toward becoming a defensive juggernaut. Poke fun of the horrible QB play in Arizona all you want. They line up and play some D, and like every other underrated NFC West defense, they play tougher when an East Coast opponent visits. I am downgrading all Eagles players this week.

I honestly don't like one single Arizona player in this game, and owners of Arizona WR Larry Fitzgerald:

Hang in there. I'm saying that the same way I would say it to a friend who was terminally ill. I mean it, but I know there's really not much hope for you to hang on to.

    Sleeper Play: Uh, no.

    Steelers at Raiders

Raiders RB Darren McFadden has been lackluster to start the 2012 season, and there is one reason: The zone blocking scheme employed by OC Greg Knapp.

Run DMC struggled in the system under former HC Tom Cable, and it wasn't until most-recent-former-HC Hue Jackson designed a "body on a body" scheme that McFadden felt comfortable with that he appeared to be reaching his full potential.

McFadden likes to get sprung at the second level and dash to fantasy glory. He does not like flowing laterally behind the line, analyzing a safety then making a cut-and-go move. It isn't his style and it is worrisome to fantasy owners.

I love Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger again this week because he seems to be riding one of his confidence streaks, and because the Raiders are just awful. They made Ryan Tannehill look like Tom Brady last week.

Sleeper Play: Raiders RB Mike Goodson: We saw that Goodson can go the distance on just one touch last week, and I can see Oakland trying some different personnel groupings and exotic formations as they will likely be mixing things up after an initial struggle to run the ball.

    Texans at Broncos

Broncos QB Peyton Manning clearly does not have the arm he used to when systematically, bi-annually dismantling a much lesser Texans team during his time with division-rival Indianapolis. I don't love Manning this week, but if we learned anything in week two, it's that it is unwise to count the man out, even late in games.

    Sleeper Play: Look elsewhere

    Patriots at Ravens

The Patriots are facing a little bit of adversity with the loss of TE Aaron Hernandez who slated to be QB Tom Brady's No. 1 option in 2012.

This gives owners of WR Wes Welker a small reprieve from what appeared to be a quick decline into fantasy mediocrity. If you are a Welker owner, hope for a big game or two in Hernandez's absence and ship the guy off to a desert island somewhere.

Sleeper Play: Jacoby Jones, WR Ravens: It pains me to say after seeing all the drops and fantasy letdowns during his time with the Texans, but it appears that Jones has carved out a niche as a specialty deep weapon in a new-look, fast-paced Ravens offense.

    Packers at Seahawks

I hate this matchup for the Packers. The Seahawks defense is becoming an elite unit who plays much better at home. All your typical Packers are their usual must-starts (no, that does not include James Jones), but I have downgraded the group in my rankings.

I don't think it will exactly be easy for the Seahawks offense, eithe. The Green Bay pass rush will rattle QB Russell Wilson, and I expect a usual, beastly performance out of Marshawn Lynch.

Sleeper Play: Packers WR Randall Cobb: If Cobb is available in your league, grab him. I like Cobb this week because I think it will be the kind of game where HC Mike McCarthy will have to get creative with his play calling and Cobb represents a versatile chess piece that must be accounted for in many different formations.

Wall St ends flat despite Spain hope, S&P off for week

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks closed flat on Friday even though investors welcomed Spain's efforts to seek a bailout and cheered Apple's newest iPhone that went on sale today, driving its shares to a record high.

Apple Inc, the world's most valuable public company in terms of market capitalization, jumped to an all-time high of $705.07 as customers lined up to buy the iPhone 5. Apple's stock ended up 0.2 percent at $700.10.

News from Spain helped lift stocks after the debt-laden country said it was considering freezing pensions and speeding up a planned rise in the retirement age as it raced to cut spending and meet conditions of an expected international sovereign aid package.

The moves, taken with the European Central Bank's efforts to spur growth in the euro zone and the Fed's recent announcement of a third round of quantitative easing, continued to underpin gains.

"The market is predominantly looking forward to the Federal Reserve and the QE infinity that the Fed promised, and the globally coordinated easing cycle," said Steve Wood, chief market strategist at Russell Investments in New York.

This week, though, the market's action has been muted, with the S&P 500 barely moving 0.6 percent in either direction daily.

The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 17.46 points, or 0.13 percent, to close at 13,579.47. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index dipped just 0.11 of a point, or 0.01 percent, to finish at 1,460.15. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 4.00 points, or 0.13 percent, to close at 3,179.96.

Earlier, the S&P 500 hit an intraday high of 1,467.07, while the Nasdaq reached a session high of 3,196.93.

A quick and sharp sell-off in spot gold shortly after midday, driven by a rumor that the CME may raise margin requirements on commodities, weighed on financial services stocks, according to Joseph Greco, managing director of Meridian Equity Partners in New York.

Many banks and other companies in the financial sector have high exposure to gold and other commodities, so any increase in margin requirements would affect them, Greco said.

Spot gold later recovered to trade up 0.6 percent at $1,777.19 an ounce by 1:11 p.m. EDT on Friday, after hitting a session high of $1,787.20 - close to its 2012 high of $1,790.30.

But financial shares were still lower by late afternoon on Friday. The S&P financial index ended down 0.3 percent.

The transportation sector limited the market's advance on Friday, when the Dow Jones Transportation Average fell 1 percent. Earlier this week, two large shipping companies - FedEx Corp. and Norfolk Southern Corp. - warned about the impact of the weakening world economy on their results.

At the close, FedEx shares slid 0.9 percent to $84.39 and Norfolk Southern shares lost 1.7 percent to $65. On Wednesday, a few brokerage firms cut their price targets on FedEx stock. On Friday, four brokers lowered their price targets on Norfolk Southern's stock.

The benchmark Standard & Poor's 500 Index has gained 5.9 percent since the start of August, mostly on expectations for new economic stimulus measures from the world's central banks. On September 13, the Federal Reserve announced a third round of stimulus or quantitative easing, known as Q3, intended to bolster the economy and reduce U.S. unemployment.

The market was more active than usual because of "quadruple witching," the quarterly settlement and expiration of four different types of September equity futures and options contracts. Expiration can lead to greater volume and volatility as players adjust or exercise their derivative positions.

"There was a little bit of a sell-off towards the close, but nothing crazy," said JJ Kinahan, chief derivatives strategist at TD Ameritrade. "There is not much volatility because the market has been trading in a pretty tight range most of the day, and it looks like most of the players have already rolled their positions over the last two weeks."

Looking ahead to quarterly earnings, one bright spot came from the fashion front. Shares of Michael Kors Holdings Ltd shot up 9.3 percent to close at $57.35. The fashion and accessory designer's company said it will probably earn more than it expected in the second quarter as it banks on strong global sales.

Housing shares climbed, led by KB Home, up 16.4 percent at $15.26, after the fifth-largest U.S. homebuilder reported a surprising quarterly profit and said its revenue backlog hit a four-year high. The PHLX housing sector index surged 1.74 percent.

Oracle Corp gained 0.7 percent to $32.47 a day after the software maker reported first-quarter earnings, excluding items, that met Wall Street's expectations. Oracle's hardware sales, however, are expected to drop further after tumbling 24 percent from a year ago. .

Volume totalled 7.92 billion shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange, the Nasdaq and the Amex.

Advancers beat decliners on both the NYSE and the Nasdaq by a ratio of 3 to 2. On the NYSE, there were 303 stocks hitting new highs and eight setting new lows. On the Nasdaq, 191 stocks touched new highs while 28 stocks reached new lows.
